About Our Location and Community
Quick Lane St. Eustache is located 500 Rue Dubois, St Eustache, QC, J7P 4W9 by 25e Ave.
Saint-Eustache is located about 35 km northwest of Montreal on the north shore of Rivière des Mille Îles. The city was originally founded in 1770 and was the site of the final battle during the Lower Canada Rebellion on December 14, 1837. The rebel leader Jean-Olivier Chénier was killed in the Battle of Saint-Eustache that marked the end of the rebellion. At the direction of General John Colborne, the town was burnt after the battle. The famous church Parish of Saint Eustache originally constructed in 1783, was also burned in the aftermath. The entire church was rebuilt in 1841 except the front façade, which still has cannon bullet holes as a reminder. From those rebellious beginnings, the town rebuilt and flourished into a manufacturing, agriculture and tourist attraction with around 45,000 residents.
Some of the top tourist attractions are Nid'Otruche, House of Culture and Heritage at Globensky Mansion, Legare Mill & The Exotarium.
Nid’Outruche is an interpretation centre that houses over 200 ostriches, has a one-hour foot safari, 30 minute tractor safari and a raticulturist’s museum. Plenty of educational fun for the whole family. This is a working farm, so you can also purchase ostrich meat and different snacks in the shop.
The Exotarioum is reptiles galore! They have over 300 different animals from many reptile species. For the brave at heart, there are hands-on experiences for you to touch some of the snakes and other reptiles. Their motto is “Exoticism at its best” and some say it is more fun than a zoo.
Legare Mill is a national historical site but is also a working water driven flour mill. It is the oldest water-driven mill in North America to never cease operations since being commissioned. This is also the starting site for 3 walking tours that explore the history of Saint-Eustache.
The House of Culture and Heritage at Globensky Mansion was constructed by local businessman Charles Globensky in 1861. The mansion had many owners after his death in 1906, but was purchased by the city of Saint-Eustache in 1961 and housed the city’s Town Hall until 1986. The mansion was turned into the House of Culture and Heritage in 2005.
